done with schoool..... (well almost)

so today we had the last day of classes... officially! mock exams start next week. and after that we'll probably again have a few days of classes to discuss the mock tests... then only the finals remain!!

and on saturday i've a football match against the guys at my former school... and i've to make it to USEF by 12 for the TOEFL test on the same day! it's goin to be fun though... playing with friends i have known since grade 1. i'm a little concerned with the TOEFL however... it's barely two days away and I haven't even checked out the TOEFL prep cd I borrowed from a friend only yesterday.
so much to do... so little time. but i KNOW i'll make it!! win the footie match, ace the TOEFL and get great grades in the mock tests! :) oh i hope so!!

to blog or not to blog... that's not my question

i've had a pretty boring weekend... exams start in little over a week so i did some studying... though not as much as I had initially planned to. i'm a big time slacker i know... i've still some math assignment left that i'm going to try complete right after i post this entry. though i just got myself a graphing calculator so math assignments take lesser time and scratchwork.. :D makes things so much easier.

ok for the next couple of weeks, i'll be a little irregular with my posts owing to my exams. hope you understand. i don't want to be sittin here, weeks later, writing "i spoiled my exams... and i'm really mad. i think it has to do with my spending time on this blog thing... i hate you blog.. goodbye...forever" ... not a pretty scene!!

so adios.. i'm off to work..!

Operation sigma

apologies for not writing in yesternight. maybe that was why i saw a really weird dream last night and i want to write it down before i forget... it's still quite sketchy though.. i tend to forget my dreams rather easily.

I don't remember where exactly the dream begins but after a while..

terrorists were attacking our school and people were sent out to fight.
... (darn i know i'm missing something here!)
and then our principal calls me and says, "Ok, what's your plan? What do you need?" I was, supposedly, the head of our school's 'army'! So i outline to her what we are planning to do and tell her, "We'll be needing one of those night vision glasses. It's pretty dark out there and if we use flashlights, we'll be spotted easily." After some initial hesitance, she agrees. And then sends me off to fight as well. "They've already advanced to stage four and we need to stop them before they reach the 10th," she says. So I head off to fight.

And I'm kinda thinking, oh why did I have to be the head of the squad and risk myself? I might get killed today! But I go ahead and start looking around for terrorists. It's really dark.
Then I'm outside the building and it's not as dark here. I spot a terrorist and start shooting.. he ducks out of sight. I wait... and he reappears. I start shooting again.. he disappears again but i continue shooting and I run out of bullets... i reload... he reappears.. i continue shooting randomly. he falls down dead.
I turn around and see another terrorist and start firing. "stop," he screams, "i'm on your team." ...oh!

i stop and wait while he walks over to me. then we look around together but find no other terrorists. i almost shoot some people, but find out they are all on my team!
finally, someone tells us that the terrorists have been defeated. yaaayyyy!!

one of the guys on my team then talks about our tactics.. "good thing we didn't use night vision glasses, there'd have been misunderstandings since our outfits were so alike!"
i feel stupid. "ok, but i ordered night vision glasses because i thought that might help. let's not mention this to the principal ok?" and i'm thinking... we could have used the glasses too... shoot a bullet or two at whoever you see and if he fires back, keep shooting, if he doesn't, he's on our side!

anyway, we are then in the principal's room, kneeling, as if we were knights come back after defeating a war. the principal comes to me with a sword and touchin it to my head, in true knighting style, says something like, "let thou be..... shadows....." and laughs along with us because we all know she's just kidding with the whole knighting thing.

end of dream... can't help it if it was boring :)
and ..i actually forgot what exactly she said while knighting me.. but it was sth stupid. and the dream doesnt' actually end there.. but i forgot what happened afterwards.
now that i think of it, the whole war thing was like a computer game! no wonder i was so cruel with that glasses theory of mine where you shoot just to see if he's a friend or a foe!! and that stage four thingy!! lol.. i should cut down on games i guess...!

...hope you aren't all confused!!!
that's all folks! ;) hope you guys have a great weekend!

the 10th entry

so on the auspicious occasion of my tenth blog entry, i present to you a poem i wrote way back in 2001, was in grade 8 or 9 ;) ..not a very good one but back then i thought it was really good ...the 3rd stanza is the worst and the others follow closely. feel free to comment harshly on the poem.. i wrote the whole thing in one short sitting just because i wanted to send SOMETHING to poetry.com ! and surprisingly enough i got an 'editor's choice award' certificate thing from the website!! i've never submitted anything else since... realizin what a phony it was! all they want to do is get your poem published in a book (no matter how crappy the poem is), and have you buy the book!

here's the certificate: haha.. i wouldn't have given it to myself!

and finally, the poem itself,

Hunting Season

The woodland is dark and eerily quiet
Except for the chirping birds, the trees
Crunching of the dry leaves under his foot
And the rustling of leaves in the breeze

Along the familiar trodden path
The hunter makes his way alone
Making not the slightest noise
A ritual for years he has known

He stands erect, listening hard
Then turns his head towards his right
Oh! There it stands, a female deer
So splendid even in such dim light

Raising his rifle to the level of his ear
He pulls the trigger letting a shot ring out
The doe so lovely, falls down at the spot
It lives no more; it's dead without doubt

Another deer dead in the season's dawn
And another one left a motherless fawn
---

thanks for the patience... ;)

when things go wrong... and right

mixed day for me..
like most mornings, this morning too i sat in front of my computer
to check my mail with a cup of coffee on the side .. no emails. so i was blindly and rather hastily reachin for my coffee when i accidentally knocked the cup over onto my keyboard.. but with my fast reflexes to aid me, i managed to catch the cup halfway before full damage was done.. then i placed the cup on the floor and proceeded to wipe the liquid off my keyboard with tissues. took some time and quite a lot of tissues before i was done. happy with a job well done, i was just stepping away when i knocked the half full cup of coffee onto the carpet!!! .. :/ a nice way to start the day!

needless to say, my mom was furious with me.. i was actually happy to leave home for school today! and oh, i've barely over a week of classes left before high school is done! yeaa. though of course there are still the finals to tackle.. stupid A-level exams are spread over two months(oct/nov)! and no matter how crappy or good i was throughout high school, these final grades will be the only ones that will get to my transcript! so i better do welll..

rained heavily during the day... and since i had only a couple of free classes today, i just played table tennis indoors. was havin fun losing to everyone.. and suddenly i remembered my bag..woah.. it was outside in the heavy rain!! i scrambled to get it.. the bag looked sodden but fortunately it was all dry on the inside.. ! thank god for waterproof bags.. i had important stuff in there!

also played some four-a-side football (not american football) when the rain abated. our group of 4 was invincible... we lost count of the number of goals we made, and didn't concede a single one! haha.. scored quite a few myself with numerous assists.. ;)

oh and i almost forgot to mention this.. my 'letter to the editor' got published in the kathmandu post. i'd sent about three emails regarding the blooper to the post last friday, but they didn't respond. and i wrote this crappy piece abt rising oil prices under some ficticious name and it got published! haha..

that's it for today i guess... until tomorrow then.

picturesque

is it still a creative block if you are stuck when writing a blog entry?

anyway, since it wasn't a very eventful day, i'll write about something else today... my trip to everest base camp earlier this year! well, i didn't really get to everest base camp as i had planned to, due to time constraints. the group i was with was verrrry slow and so we only got to about 4000m (~13100ft). nevertheless it was a lot of fun.. here are a few low res photos from the trip..

i found this guy dozing off in the museum near namche bazaar, the central 'town' in the area. one of the tourists there was tellin me the equipment was "real stuff from the early mountaineers"... but did they really use wooden sticks to climb everest..?

i took the photo on the right simply because i could! it's an army base which is located right beside the museum. the army people were tellin me I wasn't allowed to take any photo of their army base or my cam would be confiscated... so i went outside the fence and took a pic and headed down the mountain .. not a very wise thing to do though..

if you are wondering, i took this photo myself. nice isn't it? but the view there is so good, it'd be a miracle to ruin a shot!! ;) this was on the way to the "Everest View Hotel", which at 13000 ft, is the highest 5-star hotel in the world.

and this one on the right shows a view of another mountain from the hotel itself. 2 bonus points for spotting a fly in the photo.. actually you can also see mt Everest itself from the hotel, but since it was midday the view was a little hazy.

and this here to the left, is the skull of a yeti... at least tht's what i was told it was. and a monk told me that since tourists kept snippin off some hair from the skull, they decided to put the skull in a glass case. one of the guys in our group was skeptical about the authenticity of the skull.. he was like, "they did have a yeti skull here but long back it went for a world tour and never returned.. where did this one come from?"

and this is namche bazaar, the central 'town' in the area. boasts of everything from cybercafes, bakeries(french/german) to discotheques. (though i didn't see any discos around). very lively place... and equally expensive.
this here is a suspension bridge.. and the thread like thing you see flying towards the left from the bridge is a long chain of numerous white scarves... the last one is mine! the wind was blowin really hard, making it difficult to pull the chain of scarves in to tie my scarf there... but no job is too difficult for me. thankfully this was the bridge where the wind was less harsh.. on the other one, you almost felt like it would knock you off your feet!

that's all for today then... take care.

self destruction and the big bang

Another weekend gone... and as always, was not very productive. Okay, weekends are meant to be a time to relax and all. but mock exams start sept 6... and i've whole subjects to revise! and all i did was study a little cosmology which is only a physics option.

it's raining heavily outside, complete with thunder and lightning. oh and i got this picture of kathmandu city from Google Earth. that grayish blue patch towards the right bottom of the pic is the Kathmandu valley... that's the entire capital city..so you can imagine the sizes of the surrounding hills and mountains.

also i've been doin some blog hopping, or blogopping, and found some interesting blogs. found that so many had spam comments as well! thank god i've none yet.. hope there'll be none too or i'll have to include that word verification thing for comments.. which isn't very cool. so stay away spam..

nothin really interesting happened today... so i'll use the rest of this space to recap on my cosmology study. ;) uninterested can stop right here. c ya.

ok, the rest of you nerds.. long before Newton put forward his theories of gravity, how did scientists explain the falling of objects straight to the ground? ... they believed it was because the earth was stationary! and so the earth must be in the center of the solar system. oh, if only i could go back in time and teach them a thing or two about the universe! lol...

now for something more intellectual: before the big bang, everything was concentrated in one tiny spot, time and space included. so what was around that spot? nothing. absolutely nothing. no space... no time.. just nothing. it's so darn confusing.. .how can nothing exist? think about it.. and leave your comments!

the end... entry self destructing in 3...2...1... oh.. malfunctioned again.. c ya tomorrow then!

edit: chelsea vs arsenal game tonite... can't miss it!!!! GO BLUES!!!
edit2: CHELSEA WON!!!! wooohoooo!! ... 1-0 GO BLUES!!!

here comes saturday.... and here it goes!

today's topics: wallpaper, weather, electricity, sleep paralysis and weirdo factor! some topics in more detail than others...

ok, my sister has had the same "windows xp" wallpaper for a longggg time! so i was suggestin she change her wallpaper and she agreed, "perhaps i should have my own photo on my desktop." well, it's her choice. but she had no pics of her in her computer... so the obvious solution was to get new photos.

but she just wouldn't let me take her photo!! ..maybe she wanted to play the celebrity who is chased down by a paparazzo! anyway, i managed to get a few shots... and the pic here shows what her desktop looks like right now... :) .. that was the best shot i got! she asked for my help and i had to help her, didn't i?

the weather: the day was overcast and it even rained for a while. also, the electricity was out for a few hours during the day! i called up the electricity place and they said they had some "systems problem" in my area... whatever that means!

oh and yes, i had this sleep paralysis thing today. when i awoke i couldn't move my body at all... was totally paralysed... like i was pinned to my bed! if u don't know what sleep paralysis means, check out this link. apparently, when we are in deep sleep, our bodies are kinda paralysed. and if we happen to awaken directly from this deep sleep, we become fully conscious but our bodies are still paralysed... not a pleasant experience but it happens. nothing too serious though. it corrects itself.

but what's confusing to me is i don't know whether i dreamed that i had sleep paralysis or i actually had sleep paralysis. because i had jus read abt this thing not too long ago!

switching topics, how weird are you? find out here. turns out i'm 30% weird...!!

the case of the scared thread

today's janai purnima, the day of the scared thread! yes, 'scared thread'. at least that's what i learned from the front page of today's kathmandu post. i always thought it was the festival of the sacred thread. but who can argue with nepal's leading daily? if the post says the thread is scared, it is scared! here's what the photo caption read:

A brahmin priest preparing Janai, scared thread, for Janai Purnima festival at Lalitpur's Kumbeshwor temple premises, on Thursday.

so my mission today was to find out: who scared the thread?

first i questioned the priest, who insisted that the thread he was tying around my wrist was a sacred thread that protects the 'wearer', and not some cowardly thread. he found my suggestion ludicrous and laughed heartily at my expense. ohhh... evil priests!

next stop: my cousin's. the elders were all amused by my question and believed it was just a misprint by the kathmandu post. but i refuse to believe that such a reputed daily will have a typo in a photo caption on it's front page!

my 7 year old cousin offered to help. he suggested a wrestling match up. i didn't know how that would answer my question but i believed he knew what he was doing. so we wrestled... was a lot of fun actually. boy, does he know his moves! so in the end we lay
on the floor exhausted, out of breath... but i was no closer to the answer.

i gave up in the end and decided to write to kathmandu post itself. i haven't received any replies yet... ohh.. i don't think they'll answer... probably too busy with important stuff.

but curiosity is killin me... someone tell me plzzzzz..... why was the thread scared???

the wabbit

i had just entered my room after school today when i heard someone say, "what's up doc?".. i turned towards the source of this mysterious voice.. and guess what i saw?.. this wabbit sittin on top of my closet! where did u come frm u little wabbit? i asked. "the name's bunny," he replied, "bugs bunny". yea rite, like i'd believe a silly wabbit. how did u get in? i asked. "classified information" he said sternly. have you met a more annoyin wabbit? n he just wouldn't leave my room! oh n he's still here, watchin me as i type... o_O bug off bugs!

haha... as u can see, i've nothin better to do tonite!
n for those of you who are a little too gullible... i was just kiddin with the whole bugs thing!! lol. n yea, it's the eve of a 3-day weekend... wooohooo!!

anythin interestin happen today? umm... oh yea. not too interestin but i'll write it down anyway.. i was playing basketball at school today, when one of my opponents grabbed my shirt as i was runnin to get the ball... n three of the buttons from my shirt were ripped right off! darn. had to walk around holdin my shirt together in place!!....well, until a fren came up with an idea... staple my shirt together! but bad luck didn't want to let go of me just yet.. no one had a stapler! so had to run around for quite some time until i found one in the accounts room! and did the stapler work?...........yea, it did. thank god..... alright.. this is boring..

moving on, .. darn there's nothin to move on to. i'll just have to sign off now...
congrats for makin it to the end of this entry!.. :) so long... until tomorrow!

p.s. wabbit = rabbit, jus that wabbit sounds better. and special thanks to my sis for lettin me shoot her wabbit! :)

i feel so good right now... despite the fact that i still have a math assignment to complete. i'll leave that for tomorrow... u can't do everything in a day can you? moreover friday is a holiday! so it's going to be a 3-day weekend... ;)

so what else? umm... nothin really worth writing about i think...

this should be good enough for today... u'll hear from me tomorrow ... hopefully!
